10,000 Steps to Great Health

We all strive to be as healthful as we are able to be but we do not always have time that we need to get in all of the exercise that is required to be so. This is one of the reasons that the ten thousand step system has become famous. The idea is that you take at least ten thousand steps each day (walking) which will help you get very healthy and reduce the time that is required for exercise. Walking is a great, low impact, physical exercise. How often have you heard "if he'd merely taken a walk around the block every now and then?"

Obviously, getting in ten thousand steps day after day will likely be challenging. That's a huge number of steps to take! The nice thing about it is that you might be already likely taking ten thousand steps every day without knowing it. Your intention should really just be increasing your step count by two or three thousand. So how do you accomplish that without feeling like you're spending half of your day walking around?

There are a lot of obvious things you can do to take more steps. Use the stairs rather than the elevator--that's pretty basic. Parking at the far end of the parking lot can also be recommended at the mall or the store. Keep your vehicle in one spot and walk your bags and boxes out to the car after you finish shopping in each store as an alternative to just carrying more and more things with you as you run your errands and go shopping. Using public transportation is great for boosting your step count since you have to walk to the bus stop and back instead of just to and from the car. Obviously, simply just getting a short walk each day is also a good idea.

Some less clear methods to increase your step count are also available. Set up a grocery store shopping list differently. Lots of folks plan their lists in line with the aisles of their stores. You could decide to order your list according to category like meat, product and dairy. Simply buy straight down the list from here. You could wind up criss crossing the store several times but it's a fabulous way to increase your step count. Instead of placing your mailbox inside your entry way or installing it in a wall of your house, put it out by the curb on a post. This means that the simple act of checking the mail can create a few dozen steps each day.

Increasing your step count can be carried out in lots of ways. As you become familiar with the idea of walking 10,000 steps a day you'll think of excellent ways to reach this goal faster. The great thing is that each of the steps you take each day count-walking to the fridge, the copy machine to and from your car-they all matter for your goal. Have fun with it!
